Journalist Jyumpei Yasuda Missing in Syria

The article on Japanese journalist Jyumpei Yasuda who has been allegedly held hostage in Syria was withdrawn by Reporters Without Borders 6 days later.

However, the original article was covered only by a limited media in Japan such as Mainichi (Mr. Yasuda was formerly a newspaper journalist at Shinano Mainichi Newspaper) and strangely, the withdrawal of the original article was covered widely including NHK, Nikkei, etc...

In addition, the Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary, Suga commented, "Japanese government has been dealing with this issue at its best," but looking back the incident of Kenji Goto, it is quite a worrysome situation.  In this regard, I believe that the mere fact that Reporters without Borders covered the issue of Jyumpei Yasuda was meaningful.  I truly hope for the safe return of Jyumpei Yasuda.

RSF withdraws press release about Jumpei Yasuda

Published on Monday 28 December 2015.
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) issued a press release on 22 December about Jumpei Yasuda, a Japanese journalist held hostage in Syria since July. The release was not drafted according to normal procedure and was not sufficiently verified. It has therefore been withdrawn pending fuller information. We ask Yasuda’s family and friends, and the families of other hostages in Syria, to accept our apologies.,48687.html

Japanese journalist in danger, RSF calls for his immediate release

Published on Tuesday 22 December 2015.
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) calls on the Japanese government to do everything possible to obtain the release of Jumpei Yasuda, a Japanese freelance journalist who was kidnapped in Syria in July and who is still being held hostage by an armed group.

According to the information obtained yesterday by RSF, those holding Yasuda have started a countdown for the payment of a ransom, failing which they are threatening to execute him or sell him to another terrorist group.

Yasuda was kidnapped by an armed group in an area controlled by the Al-Nusra Front a few hours after crossing the border into Syria in early July. The stories he had wanted to cover included Islamic State’s execution of his friend and fellow Japanese journalist Kenji Goto in January.

RSF urges the Japanese government to act quickly. According to their obligations under international law – the Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols, UN Security Council Resolution 1738 on the safety of journalists (adopted in 2006) and a UN General Assembly resolution in 2013 – governments are responsible for the safety of journalists and must take active measures to protect and free them.

We are very concerned about Jumpei Yasuda’s fate and we call on the Japanese government to do what is needed to save this journalist,” said Benjamin Ismaïl, the head of RSF’s Asia-Pacific desk. “We also urge all parties to this conflict to respect the media’s work and to stop taking journalists hostage for political or financial purposes.

A total of 54 journalists are currently held hostage worldwide, 26 of them in Syria. The world’s most dangerous country for media personnel, Syria is ranked 177th out of 180 countries in the 2015 Reporters Without Borders press freedom index.

Dr. Bandazhevsky's latest studies are here!

The latest paper refers to the elevated level of mortality rate among people living in contaminated areas.  (ETHOS which let people to stay in contaminated areas is truly nonsense!)

One of the cause is metabolism disturbance leading to cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronical miscarriages, congenital malformation, etc.

Dr. Bandazhevsky mentioned that particular attention should be paid to the lealth of boys aged 12-17 years.  Yes, they are experiencing the 2nd generation in Chernobyl...though in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, even health impacts among 2nd and 3rd generations have been denied till today....

Dr. Bandazhevsky continued, "Pathologies found in the adolescent period are the basis for the occurence of serious diseases leading to death in adults." (from the Conclusions of "Chernobyl: Prospects for the Second Generation")

("Chernobyl: Prospects for the Second Generation"のConclusionより)

The third book by Dr. Bandazhevsky was published!!!

This book is most needed for current Japan where many Fukushima kids get thyroid cancer and metastasis in their lymphs or even lungs while major media companies ignore this most grave fact.

A letter from Okinawan Grandma to Prime Minister Abe

85 year old legendry Henoko Gramdmother, Ms. Shimabukuro was carried by an ambulance after each of her finger on the dump truck mirror was taken away by a riot police and fell off to the ground in front of the Camp Shwab where a new US Base is being constructed.  She was at one time unconscious and no police man was trying to protect her when she was falling with her head against the concrete ground, which made her unconscious.  An ambulance was called only by the citizens and police were only taking pictures of her on the ground...this became only a local news and never covered by any national news.

The series of photos were taken by an Okinawan photographer/Haiku poet, Mr. Tomoyuki Toyosato.

Video of Ms. Fumiko Shimabukuro (Sep 2014)

The following is the famous Okinawan 85 year old grandmother, Ms. Fumiko Shimabukuro. (middle)

Ms. Yoshiko Uema on the right said, "Women above 65 years old should fight in the frontline at Henoko, since they finished child rearing..."

To my surprise, both of them had concussion facing against the mobile police and were carried by the ambulance  late 2014 in front of Camp Shwab where new Henoko US base is to be constructed.

Luckily, their injuries were not serious, but both of them at one time lost their consciouness by hitting their heads!  Amazingly, this news did not become national news and was covered only locally... the article in Okinawa Times is at the end of this page.

On March 9th, I visited the sit-in tents in front of Camp Shwab near the new Henoko US base and listened to the story by Ms. Fumiko Shimabukuro, 85 year old Okinawan famous grandmother.  Please read the following message to Mr. Abe.

Before the war was ended, Japanese people used to say, "Korean, Taiwanese, Uchina (local Okinawan people)"

We have been discriminated though we are the same human beings with Japanese.

However, Okinawan women were fighting quite strongly.

Women are strong.  Because they have to give birth to children and to rear the children.

Adults can stand hunger for 2 or 3 days, but children are different.

During war time, we used to look for food in mountains.

We were all hungry without enough food and even water.  But Japanese army took away all the food such as potatoes, rice and sugar.

What was left for us was only waterly pumpkin.  We boiled the pumpkin with water, and still it was a feast for us.

But Japanese soldiers never protected us though they killed us.

The army had the power and did all they wanted.  The local police could not say a ward to the army.

Soldiers stayed in deep in the shelter and told mothers with infant children in the shelter.

"Mothers and crying children should get out of the shelter, or mothers should kill the children."

For mothers, it was impossible to kill their own child.  They had no choice but to go out to the outside where shells were attacking like rain.

Japanese army never admitted though they had done horrible things.  I sometimes feel like smashing them until they die.

I heard a man named Kashima (army officer who stationed in Okinawa) is still alive.  I heard that he said,

"Japanese army protected our civilization and did not do anything wrong."

He is the very person who order the massive killing of Okinawan local people in Kume Island.

What on earth are these people thinking of Okinawan people?

There is no reserve for life.

Unbelievably, Japanese soldiers used Okinawa children as shields for protecting their own lives.

They themselves ran away leaving children as human shields.

I hate US military but at least they treated me with burns half of my body at the hospital.  That is why I am alive now.

If it was with the Japanese military, me who was heavily injured at the time should have been left alone.

I really feel like stamping on the rotten spirits of Japanese military!

Current politicians do not know how it was during the war and do not know the suffering of the people under the wars.

Mr. Shinzo Abe is now trying to stamp on the future generations.

However, we survived under the rain of shells.

So we would never want to be defeated.

But how?  There is no solution right now.

Therefore, I would like to have some words with Prime Minister Abe.

I had received no education, so I would like to pass my letter to Prime Minister Abe through a Diet member.

I would like to ask Prime Minister Abe.

You say, "I will protect the lives and properties of our people."

Then, why did you let the young Japanese hostages be killed?

How can a person who could not save even a single person's life declare, "I will protect the lives of our people"?

Please do not use the word, "I will protect the lives" without sense of reality.

(At the year of 15, Ms. Shimabukuro had burns half of her body due to the attack by the US.  Still she carried her heavily wounded mother who was about to be killed with injection in the US hospital on her injured back and fleed from the hospital to save her.  She managed to survive and her mother also lived until the age of 95 years old.)

There were many people who could not help their own families.

Even their own lives were at risk.
(Note: In the battle of Okinawa, more than the quarter of the Okinawan population were killed.)

I do not want to hear Mr. Abe say, "I will protect the people's lives" irresponsibly.

Politicians' words are too light and almost meaningless.  Maybe because the people living in this age are living with money.

In the time of Prime Minister Hatoyama's regime, I once stood in front of the riot police and a truck saying, "If you cannot talk with me, just kill me!"

I really do not understand why Okinawa should be killed twice.

End of Ms. Shimabukuro's talk

On November 20, 2014, Ms. Shimabukuro was carried by an ambulance during the sit-in and struggle with the riot police in front of the new Henoko US Base.

85 year old woman was forcibly displaced and injured with temporary unconsciousness

In the morning of November 20th, Ms. Fumiko Shimabukuro (85) was fell down when she was forced to move by the the Okinawan prefectural police and was carried to a hospital in Nago city.  She was unconscious at one time and diagnosed as having a blow at the temporal region on her head.

According to the witness cameraman Mr. Tomoyuki Toyosato (38), Ms. Shimabukuro was trying to stop the dump truck which was going into the new Henoko US base by grabbing the front mirror, but the riot police took her hands off the mirror and she fell down to the ground.

A female part-time worker who was also injured at the spot said with tears, "The police should have protected the old lady but instead, they were taking pictures of her lying on the ground.  How inhumane..."

Lawyer Toshiji Miyake who dashed to the spot said, "I would like to make an criminal accusation on this case after listening to Ms. Shimabukuro.  I would like to make the person pay some responsibility."

The prefectural police denied the allegation of falling her down and said, "A riot police found a woman falling down and they took her to a tent.  The police is acting so that there will be no trouble or injuries.  We will continue to keep safety."

Statement from a person communicable with ISIS! on Goto's Mother's Youtube video

Comment from a person who can communicate with ISIS! on the video of Mother of Kenji Goto
Japanese followed by his original statement

Early morning of Jan 25 (Japan time)

Isis has just released a video showing Kinji Goto holding a photo of  Haruna with his head was cut off. Their demands were completely changed . They demand the Japanese diplomats in Jordan   to release their sister "Sajeda Al Reshawi" from the Jordanian prison in order to release Kinji.

i am sure that Jordan will accept this condition immediately as a kind of doing a favour  to Japan.

it seems that they killed Haruna because he was a " military adviser to Peshmarga-Kurds Army" as they say.  Peshmerga used chemical gas against the people in Musel in Iraq yesterday  killing hundreds.    this is what Isis says

Posted on the night of Jan 23 (Japan time)

To Japanese people: Here are some facts that you may don't Know.
first: Isis didn't attack Japan nor it declared war against Japan, but your government did by declaring to pay 200 million to countries fighting Isis.

secondly: your money is killing Muslims children and women in Syria and Iraq.

thirdly: This mom is weeping about her son and she says that he has a new born baby. i would like to tell her that your government's money is killing the new born babies and  sons in Iraq and Syria.

fourth:Kenji Goto went to save his friend who works as a military advisor to Pishmarga "kurds army" who kill children and women in Iraq.

fifth: Kenji Gotoy lied to Isis when they first caught him.

sixth: Your prime minister has visited israel recently and visited  Al Buraq wall in Jerusalem (symbolic religious place)  as if he declares Jerusalem to be a capital of Israel .... this is really horrible disaster in itself  With Isis.

seventh: this japanese mom is now crying and we know how she feels ... but what about millions of moms in Iraq and Syria who lost their children and even their entire families?!!

Message from the same person to Mari Takenouchi on January 25

i hope that they will be released safely,  Personally, I don't belong to ISIS,  but i know how they think , so I will do my   utmost efforts to write  on their websites  and to convince them not to hurt these two hostages. Your country has played a major role in helping us as people living in The Middle East.. I love Japanese people Now its my duty to do whatever I can . As muslim Sunni, they usually listen to Muslim Sunnis. I really have no connection  with them , but when you write or comment anything, they usually respond quickly . they are extremely active in using internet.

A statement was released by Reporters Without Boarders fowarded to Japanese government.

RWB once covered my story in connection to children left in contaminated areas in Fukushima.

I am really grateful to RWB!

Japanese government urged to obtain release of journalist held by IS

Reporters Without Borders calls on the Japanese government to do everything it can to obtain the release of Kenji Goto, a Japanese freelance journalist under threat of imminent execution by the Jihadi militant group Islamic State.

In a video posted online on 20 January, IS demanded 200 million dollars in ransom for the release of Goto and Haruna Yukawa, another Japanese citizen, threatening to kill them if the ransom was not paid in 72 hours.

Less than 24 hours is left before the deadline expires.

Goto left Japan on 22 October with the aim of filming IS fighters in Syria and was captured in November while trying to locate Yukawa. According to the Japanese media, he originally met Yukawa a few months before Yukawa was taken hostage in October.

We take note of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s pledge to do everything possible to obtain the release of the two hostages,” Reporters Without Borders programme director Lucie Morillon said.

It is vital that the Japanese government should seek the help of all the ‘strategic’ states in the region and their diplomatic networks. Efforts must be pooled to end Islamic State’s barbaric hostage industry. Following last year’s execution of journalists, we must accept that all options should be envisaged in order to save lives.”

Goto is one of the few freelance journalists to have provided Japanese TV viewers with video footage of the various bloody conflicts under way in the Middle East.

Syria is nowadays the world’s most dangerous country for journalists. In August 2012, Mika Yamamoto, a Japanese reporter for the Japan Press agency, was killed in Aleppo while covering fighting between government forces and rebels in the eastern district of Suleiman Al-Halabi.
